Eat, Drink Up Summer’s Last Sizzle

By Ashley Alt

The finest restaurants in town are serving customized dishes for their gracious guests, all three-course dinners, all $27 a pop. In the culinary world, it really doesn’t get much better than that, which is why Thursday, Friday and Saturday are all dedicated to Lexington Restaurant Week and Restaurant Week only.

Why, you ask? Because this exciting time only comes but once a year, of course, and furthermore, it is a delicious deal that simply cannot be overlooked.

While there is an entire list of local hot spots participating in the best food-and-drink week of the year, I have curated my top 5 picks, each eatery offering everything a fine restaurant should – incredible atmosphere and ambiance, royalty service, and obviously, awesome food and can’t-pass-up cocktails.

Bon appetit, Lexingtonians. Prepare your palettes for meal satisfaction sure to last until the holidays.

Restaurant Week Bests

Minglewood

I really can’t say enough good things about this adorable downtown pocket. With consistently great service and even better small plates and cocktails, Minglewood is a must-stop for city dwellers in search of that off-the-streets energy.

Known for their creative dinner fare – both names and tastes – this popular evening hangout won’t disappoint given their “I’m High on Cheese,” Jamaican shrimp cakes and donut holes course dinner offering.

Zen Sushi

What is a dining guide without a recommended sushi spot?

Zen Sushi will be offering an assortment of fresh rolls topped with exquisite seafood including bluefin tuna, yellowtail, sea scallops and other oceanic delicacies.

Set in traditional Japanese style, this little gem gets better each time you visit. And, serious bonus, it never skimps on the sake.

Distilled at the Sire Hotel

Chic. Luxe. Special: Key words that describe this oh-so swanky spot to a tee.

The regular entrees on the Distilled menu are definitely on the pricier side, so take advantage of the superb price point thanks to Restaurant Week that doesn’t compromise the quality of the chef’s craft in the kitchen.

If you are going to do it up during Restaurant Week, please do so at Distilled.

Nick Ryan’s

Hands down, one of the best porch patios that Lexington has to offer belongs to Nick Ryan’s. This old historic home turned wildly popular restaurant isn’t so bad on the inside, either, equipped with cozy seating authenticated for stimulating conversation and hours-long wine and bourbon sipping.

The chef special at this ultra pleasant Southern-style restaurant includes layered tomatoes and mozzarella cheese, a grilled New York strip, and finally, a freshly baked warm chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream.

Say no more.
